RNC seeks public’s help regarding deaths in C.B.S.
Police releasing few details
The RNC is offering no new information about the deaths of a man and woman in Conception Bay South over the weekend, but hope someone else will provide information to police.
The man and woman, in their early 50s, were found dead at 45 Roberts Rd. on Saturday. While investigators are working with the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to confirm the cause of the deaths, The Telegram learned it was a murder-suicide.
Speaking to reporters Monday outside RNC headquarters in St. John’s, RNC Const. James Cadigan wouldn’t say what the relationship was between the two deceased or whether they both lived at the house.
“Right now, the investigation is in its infancy,” he said. “What I can say is our major crime unit is gathering and processing information around this incident.”
Police responded to a request for assistance at the house just before 5 p.m. Saturday, but Cadigan wouldn’t say whether the call came from inside the house.
Officers found the deceased man and woman on the property shortly after arriving, but wouldn’t say if they were located inside or outside the house.
Cadigan also wouldn’t say if any weapons were found.
He said it’s a difficult situation to deal with for families of the deceased people and for first responders.
“This is a tragedy and the time of year creates, certainly, a sad situation,” he said. “Our members are provided with supports here within our organization to help deal with difficult situations.”
Police believe it to be an isolated incident, and there’s no further public safety concern, Cadigan said.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the RNC at 729-8000 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). Information can also be provided anonymously on the NL Crime Stoppers website at www.nlcrimstoppers.com.
“In situations with tight-knit neighbourhoods, anybody with information about the area or anything that might help us with the investigation will hopefully lead us in the right direction here,” Cadigan said.
