CHURCHILL MCMANEMIN Elise - (nee Ellis)

Elise Churchill Mcmanemin nee Ellis, 91, passed December 5, 2019. She lived the last 63 years between New Jersey, Connecticu­t and Florida. Mrs. Mcmanemin held a degree as a Registered Nurse. She attended Peter Brent Brigham in Boston and finished her studies at The General Hospital in St. John’s. She spent time working in the Operating room at the Rockefelle­r Hospital, New York City and both RN and Maternity at The Valley Hospital, Ridgewood, New Jersey. Elise grew up on Forest Road and was the 8th. generation Ellis of an original St. John’s plantation owner. Elise spent many happy summers at the family bungalow in Topsail. She was the 5th. generation of the original first Topsail, C.B.S. settlers; Phillip and Elizabeth Churchill. She loved figure skating, hiking, berry picking on the barrens, cooking, baking and cross-country skiing, which she continued well into retirement. She loved the beauty of nature and admired everything from the mountains to sea shelling on any beach and was intrigued with the cosmos. She was an avid reader, enjoyed crosswords, gardening, sewing, knitting and long walks. She enjoyed playing bridge with her clubs and friends. She loved to travel around Canada, the USA, U.K., Europe, Mediterran­ean and especially her trips home to Newfoundla­nd. Afternoon boil-up, a cup of tea and a biscuit was a ritual and highlight of her day! She was a member of various Hospital auxiliarie­s, Women’s Club’s and donated many hours to free medical clinics. Elise was known for her life of service to her family and friends, a beloved wife and mother, she was known for her quick smile, unconditio­nal love and unique accent. She is predecease­d by her husband of 51 years, Joseph P. Mcmanemin, Esq.. Joseph was US Air Force stationed during WWII at Placentia and Fort Pepperrell. Joseph was born in New York City and fell in love with both Elise and Newfoundla­nd. Elise is survived by five children: Denise, Elise (Timothy), Christophe­r (Lisa), Corinne (Robert) and Suzanne (Timothy), as well as 13 grandchild­ren and 4 great-grandchild­ren. A family service is planned for burial next to her husband Joseph this July in Topsail.
