-

Dec. 30, 1933 – Jan. 15, 2020

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our father, grandfather, loving husband and friend. Michael Hickey, of O’donnells, St. Mary’s Bay passed peacefully away on Wednesday, January 15, 2020, at St. Patrick’s Mercy Home while surrounded by his loving and devoted family. He was predeceased by his parents and remaining family being the last of the Hickey siblings. Leaving to mourn the love of his life and his soul mate of 65 years, his wife Myra; children, Rosemarie Hanlon (Nicholas), Terry (Geraldine), Reggie, Leslie (Rhonda) and Michelle Walsh (Sonny); his grandchildren whom he adored and were each the lights of his life, Kayla, Jessica (Justin) Marcus (Madison), Cassandra, Lucas (Jessie), Jack, Jason, Justin and Allan, members of both the Hickey and Hanlon families, with special mention to Mildred Tobin (Gordon), Carol Ann Hull (Ross) and Ann Marie Murphy who visited regularly, brought meals and provided enjoyable conversation. Michael was a jack of all trades. Throughout his life he provided for his family as a fisherman, taxi driver and construction worker meeting many people along his journey, most of whom remained lifelong friends. Michael decided to spend his retired years camping, a late life decision; one that treated both Mom and himself well. Singing, telling stories or having a little drink by the campfire was Dad’s happy place. Nobody passed by without him asking “Have a drink”. Dad always had a smile and a joke. He only cared to provide for his family with focus on his grandchildren each of whom he was always so proud. A very special thank you is extended to Dr. Sandi Ennis, Nurse Julieanna, Wayne and the supportive staff of 3 North South and 2 North South, who cared for Dad at St. Pat’s, where both Mom and Dad resided for the past two years your kindness will never be forgotten. Upon Dad’s request, cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Monday, January 20, from 3 – 9 p.m., at St. Joseph’s Church (St. Joseph’s, S.M.B.), followed by Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, January 21, at 10 a.m. Inurnment to follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery, O’donnell’s. There will be a Reception to follow. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations in Dad’s memory may be made to St. Patrick’s Mercy Home. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Gibbons’ Funeral Home, St. Mary’s.
