May 6, 1959 – Jan. 16, 2020 It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that the families of Pauline (Polly) Anthony-kane, age 62, and James (Jim) Kane, age 60, announce their sudden passing on January 16, 2020, along with their treasured grandson, Carter, age 5. Left to carry on their kind spirits and joy for life are son Conrad (Leeanna); daughters Victoria (Harry) and Brittany (Kyle); and precious grandson Jude (mother Lindsay). Polly’s outgoing love for life is remembered by her sisters Eileen Kehoe (Jack) and Marie Woodrow (Richard); aunts and uncles George Eddy (Catherine), Bruce Driscoll (Joan), Edith Morrissey, Shirley Eddy and Robert Rideout; and close cousin Rod Eddy (Ros). Predeceased by parents Maxwell and Kathleen Eddy; and first husband, Neil Anthony. Jim’s gentle kindness is remembered by his sisters Judy Steele (Chris), Louise Hussey (Roy), Betty Mccarthy and Shirley Murphy; brother Cyril Kane; and brother-in-law Andrew Smith. Predeceased by parents James and Elizabeth Kane; sister Phyllis Smith; brothers-in-law John Murphy and Ron Mccarthy; sister-inlaw Marley Kane. Also leaving to mourn special friends of both, Christine and Roger Churchill; and a large circle of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, friends and colleagues too numerous to list, but not forgotten. Family will accept visitors at Carnell’s Funeral Home on Freshwater Road, St. John’s on Thursday and Friday, January 30th and 31st from 2–4pm and 7–9pm. Service will take place at St. James United Church on Elizabeth Avenue, St. John’s on Saturday, February 1st at 11am; interment to follow at the Anglican Cemetery, Kenmount Rd. Polly and Jim touched the lives of so many, always giving and thinking of others. Jim was a beautiful gentle man, full of generosity and integrity, with a passion for building things. Polly had a wonderful sense of humor. She was compassionate and supportive, demonstrated by her dedication to social work. They loved to spend time with family, especially their grandchildren, and cherished their time at the cabin with great friends, music and wine. Polly and Jim’s passing has created a void for so many that can never be filled. The families would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the RNC, fire personnel, other first responders and neighbors at the scene for their compassion and tireless work. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Polly and Jim’s memory to The Gathering Place or The Janeway Children’s Hospital Foundation.
