April 26,1937 – April 18, 2020 It is with deep sorrow that the family of the late Charles Samuel Moses Pearcey of St. John’s announce his passing on April 18, 2020, age 82 years. Born in St. John’s, Charles was the eldest son of the late James & Ethel Pearcey of the Outer Battery; Charles is also predecease­d by brother-inlaw Wayne Pear. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Avril (nee Pear) and three children Carleen Noftall (Chris), Blair (Karon), and Christophe­r (Penny); eight grandchild­ren Samantha, Justin, Matthew, Kayla, Jonah, Avery, Nevaeh, and Carter; brother Carl Pearcey (Rose, deceased); sister Gloria Morgan (Robert); sisters-in-law Thelma Brake (John) and Lida Pear; brother-in-law Albert Pear (Shirley). Special mention to his first cousins whom he lived with after the Battery avalanche of 1959, Daphne Macbay (deceased), her husband Ken, Phyllis Tucker (James) and Arthur Pearcey (June); also a large circle of extended family and friends. Charlie was well known for his passion of family history of St. John’s and the Outer Battery. He was often found at the family twine store welcoming one and all. The door was always open. He received such distinctio­n as a Provincial Historic Traditiona­l Bearer and appeared on various TV shows and multiple magazines because of his love and passion of NL history. He will be greatly missed. At the request of the family cremation has taken place. Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic restrictio­ns a celebratio­n of Charles’ life will be held at a later date.
