Places at day camps could be a hot commodity
Public health guidelines mean there will be a restricted number of participants
Think of the flurry of activity when ticket sales begin for a hot musical act coming to Mile One Centre.
That’s what it could be like this morning as the City of St. John’s opens registration for day camps.
Due to public health restrictions, there will be a reduced offering of camps, and registration will be restricted to between 15 and 20 participants.
There are also eligibility requirements as outlined by recently released provincial public health guidelines. Everyone who has anything to do with the camps — including staff members, children, parents/guardians, delivery persons and guest speakers — must be screened for
COVID-19 symptoms, their travel history and contact with anyone who may have COVID-19. What’s more, that will happen prior to every time they enter the day camp premises.
The provincial government also says participants in day camps must be fully toilet trained and able to feed themselves independently. It is also recommended those considered particularly vulnerable to the effects of COVID-19 or who have family members considered vulnerable should use discretion when deciding to avail of day camp programs.
Those interested should be familiar with the province’s summer day camp guidelines. Parents can also visit the city’s website for participant information packages and FAQ’S regarding the camp program.
Registration begins at
7 a.m. and will take place online via stjohns.ca/recconnect or by telephone at 709-576-8499. Anyone registering with their Recconnect accounts must ensure their account information is up to date.
Those who don’t secure a space right away may not be totally out of luck. Parents and guardians are being encouraged to waitlist for programs if they are unsuccessful in today’s registration. The city says that as public health restrictions are reduced, its program offerings may increase, allowing accommodation of individuals on the waitlist.
