Newfoundland and Labrador reported six new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday.

In a news release, Public Health said contact tracing is underway and anyone considered a close contact has been advised to quarantine.

The cases consist of a man in his 40s in the Eastern Health region who has travelled within Canada, and three women aged between 20-59 from the Western region who were close contacts of previous positive cases and linked to the cluster of cases in that region.

There were also two new cases in the Central Health region. One is a male under 20 years old who is a close contact of a previous case, and the second is a man in his 20s who was a close contact of a previous case and is related to the Central region cluster.

The investigation into the clusters of cases in Central and Western is ongoing. As of Tuesday, there were 63 confirmed cases, one probable case and one presumptive positive case associated with the cluster in Central Health.

There are 14 confirmed cases and four presumptive positive cases associated with the cluster in the Western

Health.

The source of infection of both clusters remains under investigation.

There are three other presumptive positive cases in the province.

Cases on Thursday, May 20 and Friday, May 28 in the Central region remain under investigation, as does the case reported Thursday, May 27 in the Western region.

Public Health also said it has received questioning regarding rotational workers returning from Baffinland, Nunavut.

“All rotational workers returning to the province from an outbreak site must selfisolate away from household members for 14 days and arrange COVID-19 testing,” said Public Health. “This includes those from the Mary River Mine Operation by Baffinland, Nunavut.”

There were 90 active cases of COVID-19 in the province Tuesday, with 15 in Eastern Health, 60 in Central Health, 25 in Western Health and none in Labrador-grenfell Health.

Despite recent clusters of cases, COVID-19 vaccination clinics remain open in the Western Health and Central Health regions.
