Province’s active COVID-19 caseload drops by 10

-

The number of active COVID19 cases in the province took a double-figure dip Friday as Public Health reported two new cases alongside 12 recoveries.

Both new cases reported in the Department of Health’s daily COVID-19 update are in the Western Health region.

Of the new cases, one is a man in his 40s who is connected to the cluster in the Stephenville area, while the other involves a woman in her 40s and is still under investigation.

Public Health said of the 10 new recoveries reported Friday, eight are in the Central Health region, and the two others are in the Western Health region, leaving 80 active cases: 12 in the Eastern Health region; 34 in Central Health; 34 in Western Health; and none in Labrador-grenfell Health.

The investigations into the clusters of cases in the Central Health (Lewisporte area) and Western Health (Stephenville area) regions are ongoing.

In Central Health, 69 confirmed cases, two probable cases and one presumptive positive case have been associated with the cluster there. The confirmed number total includes those who have already recovered.

In the Western Health region, there are 25 confirmed cases and two presumptive positive cases associated with that cluster.

A case reported on Wednesday in the Western Health region has been confirmed to be a contact of a previous case, but is not related to the cluster.

One person in the province was in hospital with the coronavirus as of Friday, one fewer than the previous day.
