NASON, Amelia Galliup

-

In Memory of Amelia Galliup Nason. September 28, 1928 – May 30, 2021. Our family is saddened to announce the passing of our dedicated mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Amelia Nason on Sunday, May 30th, 2021 in Vancouver. Born in 1928, Amelia was the third of four siblings born to Curtis and Hazel Forsey of Grand Bank, Newfoundland. She is survived by her sister Helen Milley of St. John’s, and sisters-in-law Marion Forsey of St. John’s and Irene Nason of Hamilton, and was pre-deceased by her brother Bill Forsey of Harbour Grace, Newfoundland and by her sister Jane Bjorkman of Portland, Oregon. Amelia is survived by her son Gary (Diana) Nason of Victoria, daughter Laraine (Bruce) Davey of Vancouver, granddaughters Alicia (Jeff) Hornsberger and Meghan (Lawrence) Schouten both of Vancouver, grandsons Joel Nason of Victoria and Graham and Colin Davey both of Vancouver, eight nieces and nephews in Canada and the United States, and dear cousin George Forsey of Grand Bank. Amelia was also the proud great-grandmother of Theodore, Otis and Wilhelmina Hornsberger and Amelia and Cosette Schouten, all of Vancouver.

Amelia was trained in St. John’s Newfoundland as a Registered Nurse, where she met her future husband Curtis Nason. Married in 1951, Curt’s initial career as a Royal Canadian Air Force navigating officer eventually took the family to homes in seven provinces across Canada and to the United Kingdom. After retirement Curt and Amelia settled in Saanichton in 1989 where they enjoyed travel, tending to their immaculate house and garden, and volunteering in the local community. After Curt’s passing in 2008 Amelia continued to volunteer at Broadmead Lodge. She was a dedicated and caring mother, and family meant everything to her. She will be sorely missed by all who knew her.

The family would like to sincerely thank all of the medical staff and caregivers who cared for and provided support to Mom, and in particular to the staff of Crofton Manor in Vancouver where Mom spent the final two years of her life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to three of Mom’s favourite charities - the Canadian National Institute for the Blind, Broadmead Lodge or the food bank of your choice. A private family service and gathering to honour Amelia’s memory will be arranged at a future date. Condolences and happy memories may be made to the family at: www.arbourmemorial.ca/richmond
