O’leary’s lawyers allege proper disclosure not provided

-

The trial of Linda O’leary for her role in a fatal boating accident in Ontario cottage country has been delayed by complaints from her lawyers that prosecutors did not provided proper disclosure of information from the government’s interviews of witnesses.

About 15 minutes after the scheduled start time of Thursday’s hearing — the fourth day of the trial in Parry Sound, Ont., — the Zoom video link to the courtroom sprang to life just in time for the public to hear O’leary’s defence lawyer, Brian Greenspan, say, “An issue has arisen that I’d like to address the court on.”

The video and audio to the courtroom then ended, in an apparent attempt to shield events from a witness, William Hibbard, who was about to testify as the day’s first witness. Instead of moving Hibbard out of the room, the court moved everyone monitoring the virtual hearing out of court.
