Man who evaded police passes on bail hearing
CORNER BROOK — Ryan Martin Boland was to be transferred to the West Coast Correctional Centre in Stephenville on Friday after consenting to remain on remand.
Boland, who is from the Bay of Islands and is also known as Ryan Fewer, appeared in provincial court in Corner Brook on Friday morning by telephone from the HMP lockup in the city.
Boland, 24, was arrested Wednesday on warrants from the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. He had been evading police since late last week after he was identified as the suspect in an armed robbery at a Benoit’s Cove convenience store on June 11, and was also wanted in relation to a break and enter that occurred in Pasadena on June 12. He also missed a court date.
He now faces 25 charges, including two counts of breaking and entering, mischief by damaging property, two counts of trespassing at night, nine counts of failing to abide by court orders, two counts of theft under $5,000, three counts of disguised with intent, failure to attend court, unlawfully committing robbery, assault with a weapon, possession of weapon for a dangerous purpose and unlawfully operating a vehicle while holding a suspended licence.
Boland waived his right to a bail hearing during the appearance, but can request one at any time.
He’ll be back in court on June 29.
