MUN Seahawks prepping for fall action
After a cancelled year due to COVID-19, seasons announced for fall/winter sports
After sitting out the 2020 sporting season, the Memorial Seahawks varsity teams are preparing for a new 2021 fall and winter Atlantic University Sport (AUS) conference competition.
The AUS recently released the schedules for both fall and winter sports. Last season Memorial did not compete in AUS men’s and women’s soccer and basketball as a result of COVID-19.
“Travel is our biggest obstacle,” said Memorial’s Ian Coultas. “So as long as everyone is safe we will be ready to go.”
The 10 AUS men’s and women’s soccer teams will see action on opening weekend Sept. 10-12. MUN’S soccer squads will open their seasons at home against Mount Allison on Sept. 11.
The 2021 AUS soccer championships will once again be hosted by Cape Breton University in Sydney, N.S., from Nov. 4-7. This is the third time that the men’s and women’s championships will be hosted jointly.
Memorial Seahawks basketball will commence in the fall as well, with both the men’s and women’s teams slotted to play their season openers Oct. 30 at the University of P.E.I. Both men’s and women’s home openers will take place on Nov. 6 when both teams play host to Cape Breton.
