Fundraising to help people in Ukraine

-

Further to my letter published in March titled, “We must stop Putin,” I came up with an idea: why don’t the people of C.B.S. donate some money through the Red Cross to help the people of Ukraine in their suffering.

I approached the Dart League of Worsley Park to see if they would sponsor this worthwhile event, they jumped in with open arms and before the dart game was over they had donated their 50/50 ticket draw of $100plus to the cause and eight people volunteered to help. Our big event was a card game April 30, well planned, well organized with lots of prizes donated for tickets.

Sad to say when the day arrived, it had to be cancelled because beside our committee, only eight people turned up.

To say we were disappointed would be an understatement. Because of the number of prizes donated, we decided to try and figure out what went wrong and try it again at a later date.

It wasn’t a total loss; we did present the Red Cross on May 3 with $629.20 that was collected through donations. We would like to thank all the people who supported us, including the Town of C.B.S. and the Shoreline for all their help.

The need is greater than ever. Women and children being killed every day, a country left in ruins, no homes to return to. The Red Cross is doing a tremendous job and risking their lives in Ukraine but they need your help and you can do it through the Worsley Park Dart League Fundraiser.

If the people are interested in donating or helping or willing to come to our next fundraiser, please give me a call at 709-631-1588/6737218 or email wilfbartlett @hotmail.com or contact Geri Weir at 834-4965, Shirley Miller at 834-3557 or Viola Dawe at 834-2708.

Don’t forget the need is greater than ever, let’s make the next attempt at the fundraiser a big success, let’s show Ukraine that we care.

Thank you!
