Sun but also showers to dodge this long weekend
The first long weekend of the summer is approaching. We have a weakening cold front that will move across much of the region today. While there will be a mix of sun and cloud, a chance of showers and risk of thundershowers will develop for Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick and Labrador.
Energy from this front will absorb into a weak low-pressure system that will move northeast from Sable Island, bringing about two to 10 mm of rain to eastern Newfoundland Thursday night and Friday morning.
The weather for most of us this Canada Day is looking good, with a mix of sun and cloud for Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick, western Newfoundland and southeast Labrador.
The rain I mentioned for eastern Newfoundland will taper off to a chance of showers by the afternoon, while western Labrador will see increasing clouds and a chance of showers.
Temperatures will be in the low-to-mid 20s across the region on Canada Day, with cooler conditions directly on parts of the coast.
It will remain comfortable humidity-wise, but that will change by Saturday.
A warm front will cross the region, followed by a slowmoving cold front.
Along this front, scattered showers and a risk of thundershowers will develop over New Brunswick and Labrador early Saturday, moving into Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island throughout
Saturday and into western Newfoundland Saturday evening.
The front clears the Maritimes Sunday, but it might drag its heels a bit — keeping a chance of showers in place mainly for Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island.
Newfoundland and Labrador will see showers and a risk of thundershowers throughout Sunday.
The good news is that drier air and lower humidity returns behind the front.
Have a safe and enjoyable long weekend.
