DIXON, Peggy Loretta Peggy !'retta
Passed peacefully away in the presence of her ever-loving family on Sunday, May 21, 2023. Peggy aged 65 was born in Springdale, Nfld., and grew up in Baie Verte, Nfld. Leaving to mourn her loving husband, Michael Sweeney (JR); son, James Sweeney; daughter, Caleigh Sweeney (Dene); parents, Zelda (Barnes) and William Dixon; brother, Robert Dixon (Nancy); special nephew, Dylan Dixon (Bayley); sibling’s in-law, Rosemary (Gerard), Ernie (Joyce), Terry (Irene), David (Maxine), Darlene (Dave), Danny (Enobong), Jacinta (Tom), Emmett, and Edith, her uncle, Clarence Barnes (Janet); and a huge number of niece and nephews; many first cousins; and many many awesome friends locally, nationally, and worldwide; as well a large number of co-workers. Predeceased by her grandparents, Dixon and Barnes; in-laws, Mary and Michael Sweeney (SR); brother in-law, Donald Sweeney; uncle, Edward Barnes; and aunt Margaret Mouland. Peggy received her PHD from University of Edinburgh in 1986 and received her Fellowship in the Royal Entomological Society of London in 1983 and her Fellowship in Entomology Society of Canada in 2021.She spent most of working career at Dept, of Agriculture on Brookfield Road. She was an Adjunct Professor at Memorial University of Newfoundland, and her interest were wide and varied including photography, reading, sports, astronomy, and music and authored professional books and papers. Peggy was member of the Avalon Dragon Boats and Sci-fi on the Rock and a staunch supporter of the Cat Rescue program and a lover of all animals. She was a world traveler and was able to fulfill her a lifelong dream of visiting the Galapagos Islands in 2018. Peggy was a great partner, friend, mentor but most off all a great mom.
