Passed peacefully away at the Central Newfoundla­nd Regional Health Centre, Grand Falls-windsor, N.L. on Sunday May 21, 2023, Richard Joseph Budgell of Grand Falls-windsor, N.L., formally of Fortune Harbour, N.L. aged 88 years. Richard leaves to mourn with a lifetime of fond and loving memories, his wife of nearly 48 years, Anne Marie (Croke); sister-in-law, Marie Budgell; nieces, Paula Budgell (Brian Lane, Nicole, Brandon Casey) Genevieve Brake (Paul, Terry, Jonathan, and Steven); nephews, David Budgell (Ashley and Hailey) and John Budgell (Jamie, Hayden, Carson, Austin and Shelina); as well as cousins of the Glavine and Brophy families. Richard is predecease­d by his parents, John and Mary (Glavine) Budgell; sister, Hannah; brothers, David, William, John (Mary); parents in-law, John and Margaret Croke. Richard was a wonderful husband, son, son-in-law, and uncle who cared deeply for his family. His infectious smile and kindness to everyone endeared him to everyone he met. He spent many a happy hour traveling with Anne Marie, playing darts, and dancing. He enjoyed every moment of his long life. His working life with Canadian Railways spanned 34 years. The past two and half years of illness took a toll on his life, but he remained upbeat and pleasant to the end. The public visitation took place Wednesday, May 24, at 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. from Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, 10 Bayley Street, Grand Fallswinds­or, N.L. The Mass of Christian Burial took place Thursday, May 25, at 11 a.m. from the Cathedral of Immaculate Conception, Grand Falls-windsor, N.L., with Father Tom Duffenais officiatin­g. The interment followed at the Roman Catholic Cemetery, Union Street, Grand Falls-windsor, N.L. Flowers greatly accepted and as expression­s of sympathy, donations in his memory may be made to The Kidney Foundation of Canada, the Diabetic Canada or a charity of one’s choice. The family wishes to thank everyone who helped throughout his illness and since his passing. May God Bless all of you. May his kind, loving and gentle soul rest in peace.
