Memorial University BA alumni honoured at partners in June
Memorial University’s business administration has announced four people this year to be honoured at the 36th annual partners celebration.
The event will take place on June 15 at the Emera Innovation Exchange of Signal Hill Campus.
Recipients for this year are Wade Dawe, Julia Mullaley, Belle Steinhauer and Mohammad Bashir.
Wade Dawe, president of Brigus Capital, will receive the P.J. Gardiner 2023 Newfoundland and Labrador Entrepreneur of the Year Award.
He founded Torrent Capital and introduced green energy initiatives in 2022. He mentors at the Creative Destruction Lab at Dalhousie University and established an annual $10,000 entrepreneurship award to Memorial students.
Julia Mullaley, CEO of Newfoundland and Labrador Housing Corp., will receive the 2023 Alumni Honour Award.
She has served at the housing corporation since 2022 and was a deputy minister in advanced education and municipal affairs. She is also an ex-officio board member of End Homelessness in St. John’s.
Belle Steinhauer, a business master’s degree graduate in 2023, will receive the 2023 Dr. Victor Young Graduate Student Citizenship Award.
She was one of the 10 MBA students across Canada to speak at the 2022 Global Business Forum and a participant of the John Molson International Case Competition. She led the business development for Genesis’ Evolution Program and received awards and scholarships at the business faculty.
Business student Mohammad Bashir will receive the Dr. Robert Crosbie Undergraduate Student Citizenship Award.
He represents the business faculty on the student union and is a vice-president of finance and administration for the International Student Council.
Travor Brown, the business faculty’s interim dean, said they are pleased the winners this year are alumni of Memorial.
“They exemplify the type of leaders we hope to honour with these awards, and we’re proud to have played a role in their success,” said Brown.
