ABBOTT, Roma Judy

-

Passed peacefully on Friday, February 16th, 2024, at Dr. G.B Cross Memorial Hospital in Clarenville, Roma Judy Abbott, aged 63, of Bonavista. Deceased by her father, Ralph Abbott. Predeceased by her grandparents, several uncles and aunts. Left with loving memories, her loving and devoted mother, Millicent Abbott; sister, Denise (John); brothers, Brian (Gayle), Trent (Ardelle), and Dwayne (Paula); nieces, Lesley Howard, Lily Abbott, and Tessa Abbott; great-nieces, Leah Howard and Hayley Howard; nephews, Jonathan Murphy (Jessica), Spencer Abbott (Kirkland), Stefan Abbott, Owen Abbott, and Liam Abbott, and a wide circle of extended family members who loved her dearly. Roma was a lovely person who valued her family, friends, community and her professional career. Whether it was her commitment to taking her Mom and Dad on trips around Newfoundland or to visit family on the mainland, to sponsoring her nieces and nephews’ hobbies and activities, you could always count on her to be family first. Roma was proud of her 35-year banking career with Scotiabank in Newfoundland Labrador. She worked in multiple communities, served and supported thousands of Newfoundlanders and Labradorians, from St. John’s, Whitbourne, Trepassey, Bonavista, Springdale, Goose Bay, to Port aux Basques, Grand Falls, Glovertown, and Carbonear. Outside of work she embraced life to enjoy time with friends, family and community. Roma was a loyal curling fan and player, lover of “times up in the woods” with her crew, and an avid volunteer in her community, including the Kiwanis Club, local food banks and the Canadian Cancer Society’s Daffodil campaign. Among Roma’s wide group of friends, nearest to her heart were the times spent with her childhood friend and sidekick, Brenda Keelmonks; her Carbonear besties, Barb, Dete, Dawn, and the crew; the Careens from Branch and her close friends growing up in Bonavista. For the last 13 years Roma’s furry side kick Sandy, her faithful pup, wasn’t far from her side. Roma’s family extends a heartfelt thank-you to the staff of Carbonear General Hospital, Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Centre, Dr. G.B. Cross Memorial Hospital, and Eastern Health’s Palliative Care team for the professional and compassionate care she received. Funeral service was held on Wednesday, February 21 at 2 p.m. from Bethany United Church, Carbonear. In lieu of flowers, donations are recommended to Cancer Care Society’s Daffodil Place at https://support.cancer.ca/ site/spageserver/?pagenam e=onsac_thelodge.
