Age 97 of Sturgis, MI, passed away early Monday morning February 26, 2024, at Birch Meadows in Three Rivers, Michigan. She was born February 6, 1927, in St. John’s Newfoundla­nd, Canada, daughter of the late Michael J. and Elizabeth M. (O’brien) Ebbs. Florence married her Air Force sweetheart, Jack Sayre, on June 7, 1951, at Ft. Pepperil, St. Johns Newfoundla­nd. They traveled the world moving from base to base, including; England, Colorado Springs, Cocoa Beach, and several other bases until Jack retired. After living in Silicon Valley for several years they returned to St. Johns, Newfoundla­nd. Eventually they moved to Sturgis, MI. to be closer to their children and Grandchild­ren. Florence was a housewife, mother of two children, Roy and Sharon. She loved her family and enjoyed her independen­ce and was always on the go! She even earned the nickname “Go Go Flo”. She had a vibrant personalit­y that would light up the room. She engaged everyone she met with the genuine manner of a true Newfoundla­nder. She is survived by her Loving daughter, Sharon; and her husband, Lester Hertlein of Three Rivers; grandchild­ren, Brian and his wife Arielle Hertlein of Sturgis, Angela Hertlein of Denver, CO; great-grandchild­ren, Jaida, Liam and Kera Hertlein, Julien Dejnowski. Residing in Colorado, brother-in-law, Roy Spenser; sister-in-law, Patty Spencer; sister-in-law, Donna Newton; as well as many nieces; nephews; greatniece­s; and great-nephews. Residing in St Johns, Newfoundla­nd, two nephews, Robert Somerton and Obie Somerton; three nieces, Florence Whelan, Vera Powers, Ann Noris. As well as many great-nephews and greatniece­s. In accordance with her wishes cremation has taken place. A memorial service Celebratin­g the Life of Florence Marie Sayre will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 16th at the Hackman Chapel of Hackman Family Funeral Homes, 114 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis, MI 49091. Private Entombment of the remains will take place at Oak Lawn Cemetery Columbariu­m in Sturgis at a later date.
