August 25, 1932 - April 2, 2024. Passed peacefully away at the Health Sciences Centre after a short illness on April 2, 2024 in her 92nd year. In heaven she will embrace her parents, Marcella Mercedes (Seward) Carew and John Frances Carew; brothers, John Carew and Nick Carew; sister, Sheila Carew; and niece, Cindy Eagan. Leaving to mourn are brothers, Joe Carew, Danny Carew (Maxine) and Pat Carew (Jean);, and sisters, Marina Carew Aita (Angelo) and Eleanor Carew Furlong. Also leaving many nieces and nephews and their families, whom she loved dearly: Karen Carew Fung-kee-fung (Michael, Kristian, Amy, Konner, Mallory), Nick Carew (Janet, Kelly, Robbie), Anne Marie Carew Mikhailyuk (Yuri, Emma), Jamie Carew, Armando Aita (Barbara, Oscar, Jacob), Mike Carew (Daniella, Abby) Sean Carew (Wendy), Colleen Carew Ivimey (Rob, Maggie, Thomas, Alex), Sandi Carew (Ian, Jake, Sean), Kim Furlong (Randy, Jonathan, Katie, Sophie) and Judy Furlong Mallard (Steve, Christophe­r, Stephen, David). She will also be missed by her lifetime friend and travel companion Madeline Meaney and her wonderful neighborho­od friends on Avery Place, Mt. Pearl especially Rose Crawford and Gerry and Viola Smith. Anne was the oldest daughter in a family of 11 Carews who lived on Mckay Street in St. John’s, NL. She had five rowdy bothers to keep in line and three younger sisters whom she mothered in the Carew household. She graduated from St. Patrick’s Girls School. Following her religious vocation to serve, she entered the Presentati­on Sisters at age 17 and dedicated over 30 years of her life. She was a lifelong learner studying at home and abroad earning several degrees including a Bachelor of Arts, a Bachelor of Education and two Masters Degrees. After 42 years of teaching youth in schools all over Newfoundla­nd and English as a second language in Toronto, Anne retired from St. Peter’s Elementary School, Mt Pearl, in June of 1993. Anne was a global citizen enjoying traveling abroad in Europe and the USA. In retirement Anne cared for her loving sister Sheila, enjoyed walking her poodle Sasha and spending time with her extended Carew family. She had an exceptiona­l ability to captivate one’s attention and she never missed an opportunit­y to engage her students and family members in conversati­ons about their lives, interests, and dreams. She had great pride and love for her family and lived a life of gratitude. Her warm smile, kind nature, happy demeanor and endless support will be dearly missed. Cremation has taken place at Anne’s request. The family will receive visitors at Caul's Funeral Home, St. John's on Thursday April 4th from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Mass will take place at the Basilica on Friday, April 5th at 11 a.m. with inurnment to follow at Belvedere Cemetery.
