Passed peacefully away at Chancellor Park at the age of 87 on April 3, 2024. Shirley Bartlett (RN) predecease­d by parents, Nettie and Fred Cousens; husbands, Leonard Bartlett (1998) and Gerry Barnes (2006); and brothers, Gord and Jim Cousens. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories, her daughter, Kathy (Ron); and son, Ian; and much-loved granddaugh­ter, Tessa Marie (Matthew). Also leaving to mourn sisters-in-law, Mildred, Barbara, and Joyce Cousens; beloved nieces and nephews; the extended Barnes family; lifelong friend, Ruby Gullage; and many other dear friends. Special thanks to the staff at Chancellor Park for taking such wonderful care of her in her final years. Shirley was a caring and excellent nurse, who thrived in her role on the NICU unit for over 30 years. Her strong work ethic and strength was evident in all aspects of her life. Shirley was a baker, known for her cherry and coconut cakes, muffins, and tea buns. She had a passion for helping others and traveling, cherishing the many friendship­s she made with the Weston Girls, with whom she traveled to England for the Queen’s coronation. She was an avid reader and always looked forward to her nightly game of Jeopardy. Leaving behind a legacy of strength, faith, kindness, generosity, and love for her family, friends, and nursing career, she will be missed beyond measure. Visitation will take place on Saturday, April 6 at Barrett’s funeral home from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. from the Salvation Army Temple, Torbay Road on Monday, April 8, 2024. Donations can be made in honour of Shirley to Alzheimer’s Society or Beagle.
