CHEESEMAN, Victoria May “Vicki”

-

May 24, 1928 – April 1, 2024. Our Lord has called her home. Youngest daughter of James and Flora Butler of Bishop Falls. Beloved wife of Roy and loving mother to her five children Larry (Kathy), Lynn, Vicki Stokes (Nelson), Chris Van Gorp (John), and Jane (deceased). Her children provided her with endless joy, pride and treasured family time together. The arrival of 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and 1 great great-grandchild further enriched her life with fun and laughter. Following her graduation from Acadia University, she began a promising career in St. John’s where she met Roy. They were married in 1948. On arrival of their first child, she made the decision to devote herself entirely to raising her young family. After observing the need in the world around her she became a dedicated volunteer. She gave a great deal of time and energy to the Children’s Rehabilitation Center in Pleasantville. Vicki was a gifted artist in embroidery, and in what little spare time she had, she devoted herself to her craft. She shared this gift and spread joy and pleasure through the St. John’s Guild of Embroiderers. She served on their Board for many years and found women with the same passion who formed their own working group and met for many years. The “Tuesday Girls” were a great joy to Vicki and their friendship was cherished. When the time came that she could no longer manage the work, the Tuesday Girls would come to Vicki and gather to support the efforts of each other. Vicki also took great pleasure in playing bridge, a lifelong passion for her. While many of her bridge partners are now gone, she will be missed by the group of her partners at Tiffany Village. Her life at Tiffany was full and she took great pleasure in her social life there. Our family are grateful for the wonderful care and kindness she received during her years there. Vicki brought joy to those around her, and her love and friendship will be missed by all whose lives she touched. Visitation will take place on Tuesday, April 9th from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Carnell’s Funeral Home 329 Freshwater Rd. Funeral service to take place at on Wednesday, April 10th at 11 a.m. at St. Mark’s Anglican Church 203 Logy Bay Rd. In lieu of flowers, donations are gratefully accepted to the charity of one’s choice.
