Paradise to upgrade section of Kenmount Road in 2025
Over 500 metres of Kenmount Road in Paradise is slated to be rebuilt next year.
Paradise council recently awarded the consulting contract for the design and engineering of the project, with the construction work expected to begin in 2025.
The part of Kenmount Road affected will be from the intersection with Mcnamara Drive and Bremigen’s Boulevard to 1250 Kenmount Rd. When it's completed, it will include a new sidewalk, a multi-use trail, the installation of storm/sewer infrastructure and new subgrade and asphalt. It will also be expanded from two lanes to three, with the addition of a centre turning lane.
'GOOD UPGRADE'
Paradise Mayor Dan Bobbett said the road, which is a major arterial entrance to the town's business park, is also used quite frequently by residents to get around the town.
He's excited to get underway with rebuilding and upgrading it.
“That's a fairly well-travelled area and also supports our business and commercial/ industrial section as well,” he said.
“We look forward to it because it's going to be a significant upgrade. It’ll be a sidewalk on one side, a multiuse walking trail made of pavement on the other side, so people would be able to ride bikes in the industrial park as well. It’s going to be a good upgrade overall. It’s going to spruce up the park.”
FIRST PHASE
Bobbett said the area has seen a lot of commercial and industrial growth over the years and the work on these 555 metres is the first phase of upgrading the road in the area.
The contract for the engineering and design, which had seven bidders, was awarded to Irvine Engineering Limited for $147,956.13 (HST included).
The town has received $3,584,473 in cost-shared funding from the federal Rural and Northern Community Infrastructure Program for the project.
It’s expected the tender will go out for the construction phase in November, and construction is expected to start in April 2025 and run until October 2025.
