BLACKMORE (Hollett), Ivy

-

September 3, 1933 – April 6, 2024. It is with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to a dear wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister: Ivy Blackmore (age 90). She passed away Saturday evening surrounded by family. Ivy is survived by her devoted husband, Harold; her four loving children: Bill (Laurie Quinton), Bob (Debbie O’rielly), Susan (Roy Osmond), and Jim (Holly Doyle); cherished grandchildren: Amy (Jonathan Kavanagh), Kristen (Greg Butler), Aaron (Alicia Taylor), Holly (Cyril Hann), Allison Osmond (Patrick Dawson), Benjamin Osmond, Quinn, and Alice; her adored greatgrandchildren: Jacob, Lily, Myles, Lauren, and soon to arrive Lincoln; Ivy’s loving baby sister, Gwen Hollett; as well as sisters-in-law Stella Mifflin, Joan, and Juanita Blackmore, and brother-inlaw Alton Wareham. Ivy is also survived by a large circle of friends and family. Everywhere Mom went, she met new people and befriended them (and often found out they were related in some way). Mom believed that there was no such thing as strangers; only friends she hadn’t met yet. Ivy was proudly raised in Spencer’s Cove, Placentia Bay, by her parents Victor Hollett and Edith “Nellie” Hollett (née Gilbert), along with her 5 sisters: Verna Thaxton, Daphne Squires, Edith Wareham, Joan Hollett, and Gwen Hollett. In 1957, Ivy married Harold Blackmore. For 66 years, the two of them created a life filled with love, laughter, family, and friends. They loved to travel near and far and spent many happy years at the cabin Harold built in Spread Eagle. Ivy lived to entertain: her home served as a gathering place where everyone was welcomed with open arms. Many a card game, birthday party, and Christmas dinner were hosted at the Blackmore residence. No matter the occasion, Ivy made sure you never went home hungry. We will dearly miss family suppers at Mom’s, her macaroni and cheese, her turkey dinners, her gingersnaps, and of course, her famous tea buns. We would like to thank all the staff at Tiffany Village retirement home – particularly the 8th floor staff. Mom adored and spoke fondly of each of you. You made Mom feel cared for and filled her heart with joy. You will never know how much you helped all of us get through this difficult time. Ivy was also blessed with a lifetime of wonderful family doctors. God bless you all. A visitation will be held on Thursday, April 11th, from 2 – 4 p.m. and 7 – 9 p.m. at Carnell’s Funeral Home on Freshwater Road, St. John’s. The funeral service will take place on Friday, April 12th, at 11 a.m. at the Carnell Funeral Home Chapel. Cremation has taken place. Committal will be at a later date. To leave a message of condolence for the family, please visit: www.carnells.com Flowers are gratefully accepted, or a donation can be made to the SPCA St. John’s in Ivy’s memory.
