Sport NL hand out its annual awards on Saturday night in St. John’s

At a ceremony at the Sheraton Hotel in St. John’s on Apri. 13, Sport NL will host its annual awards ceremony where it will recognize some of the province’s best athletes, coaches and teams for the 2023 season.

Awards will be handed out in 10 categories and have finalists from 16 communitie­s around the province.

Here is a look at the nominees:

SENIOR MALE ATHLETE OF THE YEAR (FERD HAYWARD MEMORIAL AWARD)

• Michael Budden — Special Olympics/athletics

• Gleb Evstigneev — Gymnastics

• Liam Hickey — Para Hockey

SENIOR FEMALE ATHLETE OF THE YEAR (ELIZABETH SWAN MEMORIAL AWARD)

• Kate Bazeley — Athletics

• Abigail Newhook — Hockey

• Jane Pope — Soccer

OFFICIAL OF THE YEAR

• Gord Farrell — Soccer

• Christian Dawe — Hockey

• Kiana Laundry — Taekwondo

• Holy Cross — Soccer
