VAN de HULST (Morey), Maureen Elizabeth “Teddy”

April 10, 1955 – April 25, 2024. Passed peacefully away at the Health Sciences Centre on April 25, 2024. Maureen was born in St. John’s and grew up in Gould’s where she was known as “Teddy.” She was predecease­d by her parents, William and Elizabeth (Cove) Morey; sister, Donna Verge; sister-in-law, Linda Morey. Leaving to mourn are her husband of 39 years, Jan Willem Van de Hulst; her two dogs, Charlie and Driekus; her sisters, Sharon (Derick) Cove and Ann (Richard) Corbin; her brothers, Leo (Madeleine), Bill (Linda, predecease­d), Ken (Patsy), Pat (Denise); her sister-in-law, Margaret (Willem) Van de Berg in the Netherland­s; her nieces and nephews, and special nieces Colleen Morey, Megan Morey and Christine Morey. Maureen devoted her life to education. She started teaching at the age of 19, first in La Poile then in Rose Blanch and Sunnyside. She moved to St. John’s in 1985 when she married and taught at Mcdonald Drive Elementary for the next twenty years until her health prevented her from further pursuing her passion for teaching. Maureen graduated from Memorial University with a Bachelor of Arts (Education) in 1986 and a Master of Education (Educationa­l Administra­tion) in 1997. She was an avid reader and enjoyed singing and playing her guitar at her school and for family and friends. A special thanks to the medical and nursing staff of 4th floor south B at the Health Sciences Centre for their compassion­ate care of Maureen. Cremation has taken place. A celebratio­n of life will be scheduled at a later date. In Maureen’s memory a donation can be made to a charity of one’s choice.
