Defence receives more disclosure in drug trafficking case against Steady Brook man
The lawyer for one of five people charged in an interprovincial drug trafficking investigation has received more disclosure in relation to the charge against her client.
Sean Gibbons, 51, of Steady Brook, was not present in provincial court in Corner Brook when his case was called on Tuesday, May 7. His lawyer, Erin Breen, appeared on his behalf by teleconference.
Breen told Judge Kymil Howe that she was still in the process of reviewing the new information and would need time to complete that. Breen will then need to seek instructions from Gibbons, she told the judget.
Howe set the matter over to June 18.
ABOUT THE CASE
Gibbons was charged in December 2023 with possession of a controlled drug or substance for trafficking as part of an investigation known as Project Bustle that was started by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police’s Federal Serious and Organized Crime Unit in February 2021.
The four other people charged also have upcoming court appearances
Patrick Hickey, 25, of Corner Brook, was charged with trafficking in a controlled drug or substance and has an appearance scheduled for May 21 in the provincial court in Corner Brook.
Stephen Kelly, 42, and Kathleen Pelley, 33, of Gander, have appearances set for June 11 in Corner Brook.
Kelly is charged with three counts of trafficking in a controlled drug or substance, one count of possessing a controlled drug or substance for trafficking and one count of possession of property obtained by crime. Pelley is
withntwdo charged counts of trafficking in a controlled drug or substance and one count of possessing a controlled drug or substance for trafficking.
Kelly is also scheduled to appear in provincial court in St. John’s on June 18 on three counts of trafficking in a controlled substance and one count of possession of a controlled substance for trafficking.
The fifth person charged, Clifford Mugford, 33, of Appleton, also has an appearance set for St. John’s court on June 19. He’s facing a single count of possessing a controlled drug or substance for trafficking.
