These N.L. gymnasts were a hit

Gymnastics Newfoundla­nd and Labrador athletes left quite the impression after their performanc­e at the 2024 Eastern Canadian Gymnastics Championsh­ips.

Held at the Newfoundla­nd and Labrador Sports Centre in St. John’s, the event saw over 600 athletes, 187 coaches and 56 judges from six provinces coming to town.

According to a release from Gymastics N.L., Newfoundla­nd and Labrador athletes had an historic showing both individual­ly and as a team.

The following is a look at how provincial athletes did in the competitio­n:

• Kyla Piercey (Level 10 women’s artistic) — all-around champion, gold (vault), silver (beam, floor) and bronze (uneven bars)

• Rachel Dooley (Level 9 women’s artistic) — all-around champion, gold (beam) and bronze (bars, floor)

• Chloe Penney (Level 4 individual trampoline) — gold

• Grace Hill (Level 10 women’s artistic) — allaround bronze medal and gold (uneven bars)

• Gabe Flynn (men’s Artistic national open) — allaround bronze, silver medal (pommel horse) and bronze (vault, parallel bars)

• Max Swift (Level 5 men’s artistic) — silver (floor)

• Caleb Power (Level 3 synchro trampoline) — silver

• Ava Mogiat Kelly, Nathan Newhook (Level 1 synchro trampoline) — bronze

• Sadie Heffernan (Level 1 tumbling) — bronze
