3 things to know this week
ADDITIONAL AUTISM SUPPORT AVAILABLE
The province of Nova Scotia is making temporary changes to the Early Intensive Behavioural Intervention program to ensure more children with autism spectrum disorder can access supports.
A one-time investment of $3.5 million will expand the program this year to provide services to all eligible children born in 2015.
To ensure all eligible children receive services, programming will be offered for six months, instead of the typical 12 months, before beginning school. Parents of eligible children have been contacted directly.
Early Intensive Behavioural Intervention works to improve functional skills, including communication, social skills and behaviour, so children with autism spectrum disorder can better communicate and interact with their families, classmates, and community.
EXCELLENCE CELEBRATED FOR VALLEY WINES
Four out of five wines that recently received the 2020 Lieutenant Governor’s Award of Excellence in Nova Scotia Wines are from the Annapolis Valley.
They include NV Crémant from Blomidon Estate Winery in Canning; 2019 Riesling and 2019 Tidal Bay from Gaspereau Vineyards in Gaspereau; and 2014 Blanc de Blancs Brut from Lightfoot & Wolfville Vineyards in Wolfville.
The fifth selected as the best from among the wines submitted was Sparkling Rosé from Lüvo Life Company in Malagash.
The award is administered in conjunction with Taste of Nova Scotia and Wine Growers Nova Scotia.
TOURISM ENHANCEMENTS ON THE WAY
Kings-Hants MP Kody Blois has announced non-repayable contributions totalling $620,115 to help Wolfville and Windsor heighten vibrancy and appeal as tourism destinations when it’s safe to travel. The funding is from the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency’s Innovative Communities Fund.
The Town of Wolfville is building a welcome centre with improved accessibility, increased visitor parking, an outdoor performance space, and is connecting the Harvest Moon Trailway to Main Street. The Windsor Township Business Association is installing wayfinding signage and street lighting to enhance its streetscape.
