According to a news release, as of Dec. 1, RCMP in Nova Scotia have charged 308 people for violating the Nova Scotia Health Protection and Emergency Management Acts in relation to COVID-19.

Since March 24, 67 people were charged under the Emergency Management Act and 241 people were charged under the Health Protection Act. The majority of tickets were issued to individuals who did not self-isolate as required or didn’t follow social distancing requirements. Other tickets were issued to a business and individuals who failed to comply with a provincial closure order.

For example, on Halloween night in Wolfville alone, nine people were charged and fined under the Emergency Management Act for not adhering to gathering limitations. Earlier in October, a student who hosted a party that violated gathering limitations was fined.

With recent reports of large gatherings, police are reminding the public that enforcement of provincial regulations will continue. Anyone in attendance at an illegal gathering can now be fined $1,000.

With a vast majority of people adhering to Public Health directives and protocols outlined by the government to reduce the spread of COVID-19, the RCMP thanks Nova Scotians for their continued support.

Police are asking people to continue protecting their communities by adhering to Public Health directives and reporting crime and suspicious behaviour.
