Wolfville Farmers’ Market’s season under way

-

The Victoria Day weekend brought the beginning of the Wolfville Farmers’ Market’s (WFM) 29th season. This year also marks the WFM’s 10th anniversary in the Dewolfe Building, which is now its home.

This season gets underway under the provincial lockdown but as an essential service offering local farm and agriproducts. The market will continue to serve its community in three unique ways.

The Saturday market moved to an indoor and outdoor model on May 22 (9 a.m. to 1 p.m.), allowing vendors to sprawl out for increased social distancing. Both indoor and outdoor parts of the market will continue to be unidirectional and indoors there are plexiglass barriers. Masks are worn by vendors and all are required to follow the provincial mask mandate. Once the lockdown is over and restrictions are such that it is deemed safe, the WFM will have an outdoor music and seating area.

The online store, WFM2Go.ca continues to operate twice weekly on Wednesdays and Saturdays. This service offers seven safe pick-up hubs in Canning, Berwick, Wolfville, Windsor, Bedford, Dartmouth, Halifax and Tantallon. The online store features over 1,800

CONTRIBUTED products from over 55 vendors and offers everything you would normally find at the market, from meat, produce, flowers, gardening supplies, bread, health products, artisan products and much more.

The WFM also offers a market store, open six days a week, with fresh produce, frozen

meat, dairy, bread, pantry, health/beauty and artisan products. With approximately 30 vendors participating, the store will operate until Christmas 2021 and may continue forward.

Once restrictions are lifted, the WFM will also launch a Wednesday evening market picnic, inspired by our market suppers. Food will be served out the windows for an outdoor eating experience with live music or for take-out.

The WFM will open the booking process for weddings in 2022 starting June 1, 2021, and the market’s website will be adjusted to include information about this at that time.

“This past year has been a sincerely challenging year for so many and as we move into a new season, there is hope on the horizon, but we are not putting our guard down. Instead we are collectively giving our all to bring our wonderful community their essentials,” said Kelly Marie Redcliffe, manager Wolfville Farmers’ Market.
