Shelter Movers Nova Scotia, a charity that provides free moving and storage services to survivors of gender-based violence, is extending its services to Kings County, Annapolis

County and West Hants County this summer.

“As the brand new chapter director, I’m pleased to be joining the organization at this very exciting time. Extending our services to the Annapolis Valley will allow us to serve 60 per cent of the

Nova Scotia population,” said Erica More in a news release.

Shelter Movers is a volunteer-powered charity that was founded in Toronto in 2016. The chapter in Nova Scotia began operation in Halifax in June 2019 and has since grown to serve the South Shore and now the Annapolis Valley. Since then, Shelter Movers has completed 333 moves in the province.

Partnering with Chrysalis House, a women’s shelter in Kentville, Shelter Movers will begin moving survivors in the Annapolis Valley this summer.

“Shelter Movers understands how serving a rural community is different from operating in larger cities. Together, we addressed issues that rural populations in particular face to ensure that their services meet the needs of our clients. We’re confident that Shelter Movers will be an excellent resource for survivors of gender-based violence in our community," added Ginger MacPhee, executive director of Chrysalis House, in the news release.

For the past several weeks
