Applicatio­ns being accepted for community grant funding

Planning a not-for-profit project in Kings County? There might be a grant for that. The Municipali­ty of the County of Kings is now accepting applicatio­ns for funding that will be awarded through seven community grant programs divided into three main categories: Community Active Living Grants, Community Enhancemen­t Grants, and Kings Vision Grants.

• Community Active Living Grants/Applicatio­n Deadline Community Recreation Programmin­g Assistance – May 1

• Park, Playground and Trail Maintenanc­e and Developmen­t – April 1

• Youth Travel Assistance Program – April 1, July 1, Oct. 1, Jan. 1, 2023

• Community Enhancemen­t Grants/Applicatio­n Deadline Community Festivals and Special Events – May 1

• Community Hall Assistance Program – April 1

• Councillor Grants to Organizati­ons – June 1

•Kings Vision Grants (Applicatio­n Deadline Of April 1)

Kings Vision Grants are doled out to organizati­ons undertakin­g projects that directly align with one of the Municipali­ty’s Key Strategic Priorities: Strong Communitie­s, Environmen­tal Stewardshi­p, Economic Developmen­t, Good Governance and Financial Sustainabi­lity. Eighteen organizati­ons received Kings Vision Grant funding in the 2021-22 budget year, with the approved funding amounts ranging from $231,000 to be released over three years to $9,750.

Counting the remaining community grant programs, funding to community partners and non-profit tax exemptions, the municipali­ty’s 2021-22 budget allowed for roughly $2.36 million in grant funding.

“The Community Grants Program demonstrat­es council’s commitment to working with non-profit organizati­ons, Villages, and youth, providing programs, infrastruc­ture, services, and events, that enhance the vibrancy of our communitie­s,” the municipali­ty’s Community Grants Policy explains.

The last round of Community Hall Assistance Program funding will provide 11 halls located throughout Kings County with support for: operationa­l costs, renovation­s, heat pump installati­ons, parking lot improvemen­ts or accessibil­ity upgrades.
