Community event to focus on the environment
The Kentville Rotary Club is hosting a community-based World Environment Day event.
Rotary International has made the environment a key area of focus and to support the cause, the local club is inviting residents to gather on June 3 at Oakdene Park from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. A rain date is June 4.
The list of exhibitors is impressive. It’s a perfect opportunity to talk to environment caretakers. There will be plenty of information on specific environment projects and perhaps an opportunity to volunteer. The Ecology Action Centre, who lobbies for a better and healthier future, will attend. Learn the latest research from the scientists of the Kentville
Research and Development Centre. Learn about the importance of pollinators. The Mersey Tobeatic Research Institute will share information on an amphibian and reptile project, as well as bat monitoring in Nova Scotia.
The Nova Scotia Nature Trust will provide opportunities in land stewardship and the role of being a property guardian while you enjoy the great outdoors.
Learn about invasive species in your own backyard, river cleanup projects for the Cornwallis and Annapolis rivers, proper handling of your daily waste, and environmental products for the consumer that make a difference.
Free compost, garden plants and seed packages will also be available while supplies last.
In addition, nutritious luncheon snacks will be provided. Residents are asked to bring their own bowl, water bottle and utensils. It’s all about the environment so recycling is encouraged.
Also, participants can experience a ride in an EV car or on an EB bike. For youth, there will be educational workshops by both Flying Squirrel Adventures and selected exhibitors.
