Melting your stress away
Beautiful You Day Spa brings out inner beauty
The stresses of modern life are numerous and everpresent. Rising food and housing costs, extreme weather incidents and political turmoil near and far all take a physical and psychological toll, making self-care more important than ever.
“With everything that people are dealing with these days, it’s really important to make time to take care of yourself,” says Angela Whiteley, owner of Beautiful You Day Spa in Weymouth.
Guests at Beautiful You Day Spa enjoy a tranquil, relaxing setting and can benefit from a range of products and services.
Whiteley has been an aesthetician since 1999, has practiced reflexology for the past decade and has been a IPL (intense pulsed light) laser technician since 2017. She worked at the Wanakita Wellness Spa in Victoria, B.C., and at the Delawana Inn & Resort in Ontario. She opened Beautiful You Day Spa on Sept. 10, 2006, after moving back to Nova Scotia.
“I started in a women’s gym in Weymouth, and a year and a half later I moved here,” she recalls.
A growing number of people are enjoying the benefits of dermaplaning, a safe and simple exfoliation technique that removes the surface debris from the skin with a custom dermaplaning blade. The treatment removes vellus hair — also known as peach fuzz — a fine hair that grows all over the body. The service also improves minor acne scarring and works on all skin types, including very sensitive skin.
“The deep exfoliation evens out your skin tone,” Whiteley explains. “It helps to increase collagen production and stimulates cell reproduction.”
A dermafacial treatment is also available, which combines the benefits of a dermaplaning session with a European facial treatment that leaves skin feeling soft and hydrated.
Another service is the hydrating collagen facial, which penetrates the epidermis, diminishing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, leaving the face feeling silky and smooth while looking great.
Hair removal is another service offered at Beautiful You Day Spa. Waxing is available for most parts of the body, in which a soft, warm wax is applied, and hair is removed using cotton strips. A soothing cream is applied afterward to calm the skin down. A full range of services for the fingers and toes are offered, including shellac manicures and pedicures.
Reflexology is a natural healing art based on the principle that there are reflexes in the feet that correspond to every gland and organ in the body. Pressure is applied to those reflexes to relieve tension, improve circulation and help promote the natural function in the related areas of the body.
“It’s a wonderfully relaxing process that is also detoxifying,” Whiteley explains. “It basically puts your body into self-healing mode.”
A number of packages are available, and guests can also design their own package. By choosing three or more spa services, guests will receive a 10 per cent discount from the regular price. Gift certificates are available and make a great last-minute gift idea.
