Seeking bird watchers for Christmas Bird Count

The Victoria Standard - - Environment - INGONISH

Calling all bird lovers and outdoor enthusiasts! The annual Christmas Bird Count is just around the corner. This is a great opportunity to join friends and neighbours in spotting birds and helping out the annual bird count across the country. New to birding? No problem. The Parks Canada team and bird experts will be on hand to help. If you spot them, we’ll help you identify them. Join us in Ingonish on December 17 and in Chéticamp on December 18 and help us during this Year of the Bird!

Parks Canada is pleased to lead these two surveys. Birds are an important part of our ecosystem and this annual survey is an opportunity to connect with outdoor enthusiasts to do some community-based science and help identify trends in the bird community. According to Bird Studies Canada, “the Christmas Bird Count is North America's longest-running Citizen Science project. Counts happen in over 2000 localities throughout the Western Hemisphere.”
