Thank you for making it all possible
Producing an issue of The Victoria Standard week after every-other week can be a challenge, but it is also the greatest job I’ve ever held. With a few staff and a small legion of contributors, we venture off every day to find the stories, hear the stories, write and photograph the stories and figure out a place for them within these pages. Like many in a profession that serves the public, we frequently wonder if our content is making a difference. Is the news hitting home? Are messages reaching an audience?
When we receive words from our advertisers that their ad has made a significant impact on their sales, we feel good knowing that readers are not only seeing displays from our local businesses, they are also going out and supporting them.
Perhaps most heartwarming is the recent response Baddeck Academy received after we ran the story about their breakfast program. Several readers not only took in the news, they responded in the most selfless of ways.
Thank you to the women of Middle River who phoned us in panic that time the community calendar didn’t run. Thank you to the numerous people who stop us on the street to give words of encouragement and assurance that we’re headed in the right direction. Thank you to those who have taken the time to tell us when they disagree with content or believe we should have covered things differently. All of your feedback is vital in making a community newspaper that reflects the communities we live in, and that we can feel good about producing. Thank you to all the people who bring us a story and put their trust in us to tell it.
Thank you to everyone who plays a part in getting The Standard to the stands on a regular basis. A special thank you to our Business Manager Alicia Macisaac who is going on maternity leave as of publication of this issue. Alicia has been invaluable to the running of both the newspaper and our print shop. We wish her all the best over the next year. Our columnists are the pillars of our publication and we are grateful for their steady contributions. A heartfelt thanks to the press in Pictou, Canada Post staff who deliver the newspapers around the corner and across the country, and the retailers throughout Victoria County who carry copies. And of course, you, the reader, who we work for every day of the week.
Merry Christmas to all those who celebrate and the very season’s best to all else.
