“I write a lot about technology and often get emails from readers about how they never use Facebook because they don’t want to be tracked. What they may not realize is that the culture of surveillance is already built into day-to- day life. A perfect example is the dashboard camera, which is used to bolster insurance claims. People are often of the mentality that, if they’re the ones using these devices, it’s less of a privacy issue because it’s about looking after themselves. But, really, they’re just contributing to the normalization of surveillance.”
