Pelham is getting ready to welcome some new street art to the intersection of Effi ngham St. and Canboro Rd. in Ridgeville.

In partnership with the Friends of the Greenbelt, the town will host Paint the Pavement where people can help paint the road mural Friday from 10 a. m. until 3 p. m.

Robin Garrett, Niagara regional director of Friends of the Greenbelt Foundation, said the new initiative is a way for them to take their school programming a step further, and to celebrate the foundation’s 10th anniversary.

“We expect the result will be a beautiful nature mural,” she said.

The theme will be rooted in the community — the area with an abundance of farming, fresh produce, farm markets and so on. She said the Greenbelt aims to work closely with the farming community and promote the viability of farming.

Vickie VanRavenswaay, director of rectreation, culture and wellness at the Town of Pelham said the municipality wanted to incorporate the Friends of the Greenbelt’s school program onto Pelham’s streets.

She said not only is the mural a way to showcase public art, but also to slow traffic at the busy intersection. VanRavenswaay said the event will be a good way to bring the community together and show community spirit.

Falling on the same day as the elementary school P. A. Day, the town will run a camp for children who can’t come out with their parents. On top of painting the mural, there will be other activities for kids to enjoy during their day off . Th e camp runs at Old Pelham Town Hall from 9 a. m. until 4 p. m. for children ages 4 to 12, costs $ 60 and includes lunch. Extended care options are available.

For more information and to register for the Paint the Street Camp, phone 905- 892- 2607, ext. 329 or visit www. pelham. ca.

The rain date for the community event is June 26, but the camp will run rain or shine.

Th e intersection will be closed for the day with detours to get around the painting area.
