Gryphons up next for Badgers

Brock is back on the pitch Friday with a 6 p.m. kickoff with the Guelph Gryphons, 6-3-2.

Offence doesn’t rest

It was all Badgers, all the time, when Brock wrapped up a weekend series against the Algoma Thunderbirds in men’s university soccer with a clinic on offence.

The Badgers outshot their Sault Ste. Marie hosts 19-3, and had 45 shots overall, on their way to a 6-1 victory to even their record at 5-5-1.

Alexander Makubuya, Eric Serafino, Liam Wilson, Nathan Briglio, Jaden Nearing-Rampersad and Daliso Chulu scored for Brock.

Anthony Smith and Makubuya got their names on the scoresheet and Anthony Scott made four saves for the shutout in a 2-0 Brock victory Saturday, also against Algoma.

Next action for the Badgers is Friday at 8:15 p.m., home to Guelph Gryphons, 8-2-1; and Sunday at 3:15 p.m. versus the York Lions, also at Alumni Field.

Not so Ram tough

Brock closed out the home half of its university baseball season by taking both ends of a doubleheader from the Ryerson Rams.

A 4-3 come-from-behind victory, on a walk-off error; and 7-3 win in the second game improved the Badgers to a league-leading 11-3 heading into a season-ending twin bill on the road Friday against the Guelph Gryphons, 8-6.

Justin Gideon and Dawson Veeneman collected two hits each for the Badgers in the second game, while Noah Koffman, 2-for-5; paced Brock at the plate in the opener.

Andrew Raponi, 3 2/3 innings, five hits, two earned runs; and Nick Subramaniam, 3 1/3 innings, one hit, one, run three walks, two strikeouts; shared mound duties for the Brock in Game 2.

Pitching line for the Badgers in the opener was Derek Zwolinski, eight innings, three hits, three runs, one earned, four walks, six strikeouts; and Jake Near, one inning, no hits, no walks, no runs.

Sunday’s doubleheader at George Taylor Field in Merritton, formerly Community Park, were the final home games for Brock team captain Blake Stepien and Gideon.

Brock 1-1 on road

Eryn Brown and Lindsey Highfield each scored two goals and Victoria Halliday, Mel McCall and Brittany Schwende one each but that wasn’t enough to extend Brock’s winning streak in women’s university field lacrosse.

A 12-7 setback to the Trent Excalibur in the second half of a doubleheader Sunday in Guelph was the Badgers first in five games and dropped the team’s record to 5-3.

Brock tamed the York Lions 11-4 in the opener on goals from Olivia Langdon, two; Ally Brown, Jennifer Budarick, Tessa Czerlau, CeCe Payne, Shania Porter, Mikayla Vaz, Gillian Webster, Halliday and Schwende.

Saturday’s schedule has the Badgers in Waterloo taking on the Guelph Gryphons, at 8:30 a.m.; and the Western Mustangs, 1:45 p.m.

Pre-season opener

The Brock Badgers defeated the visiting Northern Alberta Institute of Technology Ooks 5-1 for their first win of the pre-season in women’s university hockey.

Rachel Rochat, Kim Brown, Amanda Ieradi, Christina Ieradi and Paige Cahoon scored for Brock, which came into Sunday’s game at Seymour-Hannah Sports and Entertainment Centre in St. Catharines with an 0-3 record. Jenna Murphy earned the victory in net for the Badgers who outshot the Ooks 27-24.

Brock has two home games this weekend: Friday, versus York Lions, 7:15 p.m.; Saturday, Windsor Lancers, 2:15 p.m.
