Festive homes usher in season

- MICHELLE ALLENBERG

Garlands were hung and trees decorated for about 400 visitors of the 14th Homes for the Holidays Christmas House Tour Saturday in Pelham.

Volunteer Joan Rigg said the visitors of the home at 27 Berkwood Place seemed to be having a great deal of fun. She said the foot traffic had been pretty steady, which was nice to see.

The house on was one of six Pelham homes decorated by professionals for the annual event which ran 10 a. m. until 3 p. m. The tour was organized by Fonthill United Church.

Rigg, a member of the church, said funds raised by the event would benefit the church and help run various community programs.

Judy Reid, of Pelham, said she attends the tour every year with a couple of friends. She said not only is it a great cause to help the church, but it’s also fun to see how people have decorated their homes.

“Everyone comes together to give back … I get inspiration on how to decorate and I hold off until I visit the homes to start decorating,” she said.

Rigg said she also tries to put off her decorating until she’s seen the “beautiful” homes on the house tour.

Fonthill United Church was also a stop during the house tour. People could enjoy baked goods and a warm beverage on their way to their next stop. Reid said the scones at the church were delicious and well worth the money.

Other homes on the tour included those at 970 Effingham St., 35 Rosewood Cres., 16 Brock St., 1597 Lookout St. and 67 Philmori Blvd. Each home was decorated by one of the following decorators: Cox Home Furniture, Hamiltons of Pelham, Le Village, Log Cabin Gift Shoppe, Mary Luska Interiors and Fashions, and Vermeer’s Garden Centre and Flower Shop. mallenberg@ postmedia. com twitter. com/ m_ allenberg
