Canal closes for the season

Shipping companies were given a few extra hours to get their vessels through the St. Lawrence Seaway before it closes to traffic.

The St. Lawrence Seaway including the Welland Canal was officially closed to traffic at the end of the day on Dec. 26 After that date, vessels would only be permitted into the canal under a special agreement.
