Women’s motorcycle ride ready to roll out this weekend
May is Motorcycle Awareness Month and for the past 12 years it has also marked the first official outing for female riders worldwide. Women across Niagara are invited to get on their motorcycles and head over to Clare’s Harley-Davidson at 590 York Rd., in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Saturday morning. All bikes are welcome.
The ride will leave Clare’s at 11 a.m. There will be a group photo before the ride heads out. A scenic route has been planned with a lunch stop (to be paid by each rider) at Brewins Pub at 4300 Drummond Rd. in Niagara Falls. The Niagara Chrome Divas all-female riding group will be leading the ride.
International Female Ride Day has established a dedicated and growing force of female motorbike enthusiasts through its one-of-a-kind globally synchronized motorcycle ride. It has brought women together through motorcycling across all cultures and borders, echoing women’s passion for the activity — all ages, all languages and all forms — for a dozen years.
The ride was started by Vicki Gray, founder of Motoress.com, who came up with the idea to bring awareness to the growing numbers of female motorcyclists. The effort began by designating the first Friday in May to be International Female Ride Day. A few years ago, seeing the huge growth in the interest — and realizing that many people work on a Friday — the day was moved to the first Saturday in May.
Advance registration is encouraged. There is no charge to participate. Go to www.claresharleydavidson.com.
