Wel­land li­brary to show­case lo­cal mu­sic

Ni­a­gara bands are in­vited to shake the shelves of Wel­land Pub­lic Li­brary dur­ing a bat­tle of the bands tour this sum­mer.

The li­brary said the three-part elim­i­na­tion­style com­pe­ti­tion aims to show­case the mu­si­cal tal­ents of Ni­a­gara res­i­dents aged 12 to 25.

Sub­mis­sions for this event, be­ing held in part­ner­ship with Seaway Mall, Dis­trict School Board of Ni­a­gara, City of Wel­land and The Black Sheep Lounge, will be ac­cepted until June 8.

Bands may sub­mit only one orig­i­nal song and one cover song. Pro­fes­sional record­ings will not be ac­cepted, the li­brary said. Suc­cess­ful can­di­dates will be con­tacted by June 15.

The tour of li­brary branches be­gins at the main branch, 50 The Board­walk, in­side Wel­land Civic Square on June 23, fol­lowed by Di­a­mond Trail branch, 315 South­worth St. on July 28, and lastly the Seaway Mall branch, 800 Ni­a­gara St., on Aug. 25. All events start with a re­cep­tion at 5 p.m. fol­lowed by the show at 6 p.m.

The li­brary said the se­ries is made pos­si­ble by a Ni­a­gara In­vest­ment in Cul­ture grant, with prizes pro­vided by Ki­wa­nis Club of Wel­land.
