Players warm up with practice round at Lookout

Lookout Point Country Club is ready to host a Canadian championsh­ip.

The three-day Canadian Women’s MidAmateur and Senior Championsh­ip will take place on the course in Fonthill beginning today and concluding Thursday.

Players had Monday for practice rounds with a player meeting to follow at 6 p.m. where Golf Canada officials were to address local rules, pace of play policy, and code of conduct, with an opportunit­y for competitor­s to ask questions.

A reception for the players was scheduled at the end of the meeting.

The first two threesomes scheduled to tee off Tuesday is Natalie Easterly, of Charlottes­ville, Va.; Susan Wright of Murillo, Ont.; and Judy Collins of Ottawa. They will start on the first hole. The second threesome with the first tee time is Leslie Henry of Ennis, Texas; Diane Dolan of Gatineau, Que.; and Lynne Owen of Mississaug­a. They will start on the 10th hole.

The final two groups to tee off will start at 2:42 p.m. Beginning on the first hole will be Barb Parker of Heritage Pointe, Alta.; Pamela Piotrowski of Milton, Ont.; and Diana Ferracuti of Kelowna, B.C.

Cheryl Wakefield of Hamilton; Leslie Gripps of Atikokan, Ont.; and Deborah Grieve of Toronto will start on the 10th hole.

More than 150 golfers are entered in the event from as far in the U.S. as Florida and Texas. One golfer, Sue Wooster, is from Australia.

Some of the local golfers taking part include Sharon Montgomery-Greenwood of Niagara-on-the-Lake and Karen Vamplew of Smithville. Shelley Bauer, Carol Cort, Chris Critelli and Cindy Wegg are all from St. Catharines. Stefi Markovich, Emily Zwier and Nancy Bridgeman represent Welland. Amanda Garner and Chantelle Proulx are from Pelham. Martha Cruikshank is listed from Niagara Falls.

The 2018 Canadian Women’s Senior Champion will receive an exemption to the 2018 USGA Senior Women’s Amateur Championsh­ip.

The Best Western Plus Cairn Croft Hotel in Niagara Falls is the host hotel for the championsh­ip.

A shuttle service will be available between the hotel and the golf course throughout the championsh­ip for the players. Shuttles will be departing every 45 minutes.
