Pickett brings Concert for Peace back for 10th year

-

Award-winning Niagara guitarist and harmonica player Michael Pickett will again jam with some friends for a marathon fundraiser Sept. 2.

The 10th annual Concert for Peace takes place outdoors 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. at 4023 Wellington Ct. in Crystal Beach.

Pickett describes the show as a “gathering of like-minded, peaceloving individuals” with concerns about the environment.

Proceeds (after expenses) go to Ecojustice.ca, a non-profit environmental law group comprising lawyers and scientists who work pro bono in cases involving clean water, natural species, healthy communities and climate protection.

The event began as housewarming concert for Pickett and wife Louise in 2008, for which 100 fans, friends and family members from across the U.S. and Canada showed up.

“We had no thought of making this an annual event, but it took on a life of its own and here we are in 2018 celebrating the 10th anniversary.”

In addition to Pickett, this year’s lineup includes harmon- ica player Lee Oskar, fusion band So Long Seven, storyteller Norah Dooley, R&B singer Jordan John and blues outfit The Mike Branton Band.

Tickets are $35 advance, $40 at the gate, which includes dinner at 6 p.m. Available at www.concertforpeace.net.

The entire eight-hour concert will be livestreamed on Facebook via Sessions on the River.
