’Hawks top Wel­land in bat­tle for fifth place

Owen Al­lan leads Thorold with six-point game

Owen Al­lan had a six-point night with a goal and five as­sists to help the Thorold Black­hawks skate past the vis­it­ing Wel­land Jr. Cana­di­ans in Greater On­tario Ju­nior Hockey League ac­tion Thurs­day night.

Bren­dan Charl­ton, two goals, two as­sists; and Dy­lan Latty, one goals, three as­sists; con­tributed four points each on of­fence as the

fifth-place Black­hawks im­proved their record in the Golden Horse­shoe Con­fer­ence to 6-9-0-1.

Also find­ing the back of the net for Thorold were Nick Gid­ney, Darcy Red­wood and Ni­cholas

Ru­bino.

Shots on goal were 48-30 in favour of the Black­hawks who took the lead in the sea­son se­ries against the Jr. Cana­di­ans two wins to one.

Matt Bau­mann and Cody Wall replied for sixth-place Wel­land which trailed 5-0 late in the sec­ond pe­riod and fell to 5-12-0-0 in

league play.

Thorold fin­ished the game 2-for-4 on the power play, Wel­land, 1-for-5.

An­thony Tre­monte earned the win be­tween the pipes for the Black­hawks.

Jr. Cana­di­ans start­ing goal­tender Joey Fratan­to­nio was tagged with the loss af­ter al­low­ing

three goals on 17 shots on net.

Alex Ven­dette made 27 stops on 31 shots over the fi­nal two pe­ri­ods.

Thorold was back on the ice last night vis­it­ing the con­fer­ence­lead­ing Ni­a­gara Falls Canucks, 14-2-0-1 at Gale Cen­tre.

Wel­land hosts the Canucks in a

7:05 p.m. puck drop Sun­day.

Other week­end ac­tion in the Golden Horse­shoe has the St. Catharines Fal­cons, 11-3-0-1, at the Fort Erie Meteors, 4-11-0-1, Sat­ur­day, 7:15 p.m.; and Fort Erie at the Pel­ham Pan­thers, 11-7-0-1, for a 2:30 p.m. mati­nee Sun­day.
