Blackhawks snap winless streak

Falcons continue to soar, score; Canucks double Regals

Special teams lived up to their name when the Thorold Blackhawks doubled the Fort Erie Meteors 4-2 in Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League action this weekend.

Visiting Thorold finished Saturday night’s Golden Horseshoe Conference game 2-for-7 on the power play while holding Fort Erie scoreless in seven opportunit­ies with a man advantage.

Shots on net were 51-25 in favour of the Blackhawks, who snapped a seven-game winless streak and won for the first time since Oct. 21.

Fifth-place Thorold improved

to 7-11-1-0 in the eight-team conference on the strength of unanswered goals from Jonathan

Bala, Nicholas Rubino, Owen Allan and Devon Thibodeau, in to empty net.

Noah Desmarais and Marco Lariccia scored for the seventhpla­ce Meteors, who fell to 4-14-0-1 and visit the 13-6 Hamilton Kilty B’s in 7 p.m. Sunday at Dave Andreychuk Mountain Arena.

A home-and-home series between the junior B rivals wraps up 7:07 p.m. when the action shifts to Thorold.

Falcons 7, Kilty B’s

At St. Catharines, Carson Edwardson, Dawson McKinney each scored twice, Jaleel Adams collected three assists, and the Falcons continued their winning ways with a home-ice victory over Hamilton.

Friday night’s decision at Jack Gatecliff Arena was the fourth in a row and 12th in 13 games for St. Catharines.

Xavier Drummond, Jacob Roach and Kyle West rounded out the scoring as the Falcons improved to 14-3-0-1 in the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey’s Golden Horseshoe Conference and extended their point streak to 13 games.

Ralph Taggart and T.J. Hughes netted goals for the Kilty B’s.

Hamilton, 13-6, was outshot 39-26 and finished the game 1for-6 on the power play. St. Catharines was 3-for-7 with a man advantage.

Earning the win between the pipes for the Falcons was rookie goaltender Jack McGovern, who now has eight wins and two losses.

St. Catharines visited the Welland Jr. Canadians, 5-13-0-1; Sunday night.

Canucks 4, Regals 2

At Gale Centre, host Niagara Falls scored four unanswered goals and stopped Lockport’s win streak at two and point streak at three.

Friday night’s victory improved the Canucks’ record to 17-2-0-1, best in the conference and tops in the league.

Providing the offence for Niagara Falls were Andrew Bruno, Garrett Downie, Ben Evans and Dillon Hall, with one goal each; providing the offence, with 23 saves; was Noah Fortuna.

Erich Thur, Anthony Trigilio found the back of the net for the Regals, 3-15-1.

Shots on net: Niagara Falls, 46; Lockport, 25. Power-play efficiency: both teams, 0-for-4.

Next action for the Canucks was Sunday against the Pelham Panthers, 13-7-0-1; in a road game.

Lockport hosts Niagara Falls in a 7 p.m. puck drop Saturday, Nov. 24.
