Charities benefit from Welland mayor’s event

An annual charity event put on by Mayor Frank Campion will benefit four community groups, including the Welland Mayor’s Children and Youth Fund.

The event, called Hometown Culture: An evening with Mayor Campion, was held in early November and raised a total of $16,960 for Niagara Nutrition Partners, YMCA Pro Kids, Family and Children Services, and the Niagara Community Foundation: Welland Mayor’s Children and Youth Fund.

It saw nearly 100 guests attend at the Croatian National Home to celebrate the city’s multicultu­ralism, and also saw a number of sponsors, including Welland Hydro Electric System Corp. as the main sponsor.

“The success of this evening shows in how many people are in attendance. Their generosity and support are greatly appreciate­d because they’re not only investing their time, they’re also investing their faith in our community and making a difference in many lives,” said Campion in a release from the city.

Other businesses who donated to the evening included: Ashton Homes, PenFinanci­al Credit Union, Walker Industries, BCM Insurance Company, Emterra Environmen­tal, Laurent Viger Constructi­on,

L.J. Walters Insurance Brokers Ltd.,

Youngs Insurance Brokers Inc., Travelodge Fallsview Hotel, Welded Tube of Canada, and Rankin Constructi­on Inc.,

The mayor’s charity event has been celebratin­g community compassion for more than a decade, is hosted at a variety of venues within the city. The event adopts creative and inspiratio­nal themes to make the evening welcoming and entertaini­ng.
