Satisfy your taste buds at Soup’s On!

-

Nothing beats a cold, dreary winter day like a comforting, piping hot bowl of soup or two.

And on Friday, Jan. 25, people who come out for the 17th annual Soup’s On! will have their choice of butternut squash; Thai coconut pumpkin; vegetable pistou; French-Canadian pea soup; borscht with shredded beef; sweet potato, maple and chestnut; Mexican pozole; or loaded baked potato soup to satisfy their taste buds.

The secondary school schol- arship fundraiser serves samples during three sittings — 11 a.m., noon, 1 p.m. — in St. Kevin Parish Hall on Niagara Street in Welland.

Tickets are $10 each and have remained unchanged since the event started. Tickets are available at the church office Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., in the church foyer before and after weekend masses or by arrangement with ticket convener Bernie Barkovich at 905-735-3562.

Scholarships go to graduating students active in social justice projects at their schools and in the community. Last June $1,000 scholarships were awarded to four applicants from École Secondaire Catholique Jean-Vanier, Blessed Trinity, Notre Dame and E.L. Crossley Secondary.

Over the years, social justice committee organizers have presented more than $45,000 in scholarships.

Soups on this year’s menu will be prepared by culinary students from Niagara College Food and Wine Institute, Lakeshore Catholic High School, Eastdale Secondary, École Secondaire Confédération, Blessed Trinity Catholic, Notre Dame College School and Stephanie the Lunch Lady.
